Missouri Boys State is funded largely through the contributions of civic groups, small businesses and individuals.  But, the core operating revenue has traditionally come from The Missouri American Legion.
With the membership of The Missouri American Legion decreasing steadily, our need for financial help has continued to grow.  We project program revenue from The Missouri American Legion to decrease by 1-2% each year according to current trends.  We believe this percentage decrease is a conservative projection and could go as high as 4-5% based on various factors associated with the membership of The American Legion, such as the increasing average age of current members and a decrease in active American Legion posts across the state.
This trend, plus the projected increases in basic costs to operate the Boys State program over the next decade make a compelling case for fundraising to reduce the financial risk associated with declining support from The American Legion.
